After a fantastic journey on the ferry from Ullapool we arrived in Stornaway. We were both shocked at the size of Stornaway as it was far larger than we had imagined. This is really the capital of the whole of the Hebridean islands.
Lewis is blessed with some fantastic beaches, to be honest they are on a par with anything you will find in the Mediteranian. The water colour is unbeleivable and will last in your thoughts forever, turquoise waters that stretch round the whole of the Hebrides are just magnificent.
Lewis to the north is mainly a large peat bog, but to the south it is quite hilly and has a charachter all it's own. with the ferry from Caledonian McBrayne it takes 2 hours 45 minutes from Ullapool to Stornaway.

These are the Arnol Blackhouses which were occupied until 1974 and they are a great place to visit and see how the islanders lived.
